Get on a railbike and cycle through the West Funen countryside. Although the passenger and freight train services between Assens and Tommerup have been discontinued, it is still possible to take a ride on the railway. The railbikes are easy to pedal – for children, too. A railbike excursion affords lovely views of otherwise inaccessible countryside. Cycling along the rails at one’s own pace is a unique experience. Stop the railbike whenever you like to get off and enjoy the scenery, flowers and a packed lunch before continuing.

If you work up a sweat while biking, there are many places to take a dip along the way. With eighty kilometres of sandy shoreline, you can cool your toes or otherwise enjoy the great blue sea. Southwest Funen has many nature experiences, also known as the free pleasures of Mother Nature. Take a trip to Baagø Island, for instance, on the small Baagø ferry or cycle across the lovely Helnæs peninsula and have a picnic. Do whatever your heart desires! |

An exotic world awaits you at Vissenbjerg Terrarium, the only specialty zoo in Denmark. Explore the world of the reptiles, where you will also meet amphibians, scorpions, spiders and insects. South of Tommerup is Frydenlund Bird Park, a four-hectare nature reserve with more than 800 different bird species from the whole world. Meet the three-metre-tall African ostrich at the entrance, as well as parrots, owls, web-footed birds and more.

Railbikes
 For a unique outdoor experience and an unusual adventure for the whole family, hire a railbike. The railway route runs from Tommerup Station to Assens. Enjoy the views of Dreslette Church, Helnæs Bay and the old fishing hamlet of Torø Huse along the way. Railbikes are easy to pedal and seat three or four.
